Description:

COSMOS 2589, a Russian satellite launched last June, spent the past several weeks circularizing its orbit before settling near 98°E, with USA 325, also known as GSSAP-6, tracking the activity throughout. Around April 19, COSMOS 2589 drifted past USA 325 during its maneuver sequence, after which USA 325 repositioned so that both satellites were located near the same longitude by late April. Their different inclinations created twice-daily observation opportunities, including a closest approach of roughly 13 km on May 1 with favorable sun angles, illustrating GSSAP’s role in monitoring new or unusual activity in geostationary orbit.
