Abstract:
This presentation highlights advancements in Space Situational Awareness (SSA) through the integration of data fusion techniques, commercial innovation, and international best practices. It reviews current challenges in orbital debris management, collision avoidance accuracy, and the operational costs associated with false alarms. The paper introduces the Commercial Space Operations Center (COMSPOC), a facility that fuses radar, optical, and passive RF measurements to improve space object characterization and orbit determination. COMSPOC supports the Space Data Association’s goal of enhanced operator data sharing and transparency. The presentation also emphasizes responsible space operations, adherence to debris mitigation standards, and the use of SSA tools like SpaceBook for actionable data analytics. Collectively, these approaches aim to reduce false conjunction alerts, improve operational safety, and establish a framework for more accurate and cooperative SSA practices.
